The various types of air fresheners

If you’ve been using air fresheners for a while, then you already know how many types there are.

But just in case you’ve been using one type only, know that there are many options available today, because lots has changed since the antiquity when people first discovered home fragrances.

Here are the various types of air fresheners typically found in supermarkets, drugstores, department stores and virtually any general merchandise store out there.

  • Air freshener sprays are the most common type.

One of the most utilized air fresheners is the spray, at home and in every other indoor environment. Sprays can sanitize the air, destroy odor or simply cover up unwanted smells. They can release different amounts of fragrance due to being pressure adjustable, although not all and are available in a huge variety of scents.

  • Self-standing gel fresheners are used a lot also.

Gels are one of the first modern air fresheners for home use and a favorite consumer product in many American households. They release fragrance in a more passive form and come with adjustable plastic caps so that consumers can control how much fragrance they release. They too come with different aromas.

  • Scented candles are mostly used in the cold season.

Available in hundreds of different fragrances, scented candles release aroma into the air as the wax melts. They are a type of air freshener mostly used when the air cools off outside to create atmosphere and add a burst of aroma to a space. They are usually least used to neutralize odors.

  • Essential oil diffusers purify and disinfect the air.

Popular in aromatherapy, essential oil diffusers release essential oils into the air by form of heat or other forms of diffusion. The many benefits of using them include purification of the air, elevated mood, reduction of stress, and brain stimulation. An excellent choice for aromatherapy, these diffusers have the most positive impact on health.

  • Plug-ins are a newer style of air fresheners.

Glade is the company who first introduced plug-ins, with nowadays many companies producing these air fresheners either electrical or battery-operated. Plug-in air fresheners contain scented oils and because they usually send out a constant wave of fragrance are some of the longest lasting. Not all plug-ins are composed of natural essential oils.

  • Potpourri is a traditional air freshener in many places.

Potpourri consists of dried herbs and dried flowers and can contain roots or leaves that provide a nice and fresh smell. It serves a decorative purpose as well and is commonly found in homes and commercial buildings. Most often potpourri is placed in bowls, vases and sachets to hang in closets. These are also a healthier alternative of air fresheners.

  • Hanging disks are most common for diffusing fragrant scents in a car.

Common for car use are fresheners that stick up or even more popular the ones that hang on a disk. They can be placed wherever they’re needed most and provide consistent fragrance when the product is high quality.
