For those of you who enjoy eating eggs for breakfast, including scrambled eggs or poached eggs, the recent increase in egg prices has led to a higher overall weekly grocery bill, not to mention the shortage of eggs on the shelf.

The prices of eggs sold by grocery stores have increased due to the bird flu outbreak, with over 30 million chickens being culled in the past year.
Keep in mind that the average cost of large, grade A eggs was $2.72 in March 2024 and rose to $4.95 by January 2025, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In some parts of the country a dozen eggs can cost you more than $10.
