The ExtraCare Rewards Program
The ExtraCare or ExtraBucks is a rewards program from CVS that offers various deals and even freebies to customers. The program rolls out special weekly savings and sales available only to CVS customers who’ve signed up to receive the ExtraCare Card.
What’s so great about the CVS rewards program is that it doesn’t involve earning points to receive rewards. Instead, the program is designed as an instant rebate, meaning you instantly receive “CVS money” to use right away.
In addition, there are no limits as to what you can purchase to earn rewards as the program includes almost everything from beauty and health products to household items and even prescriptions. However, CVS does exclude ExtraCare discounts for sale items.
Signing up for an ExtraCare Rewards Card
To receive and use the ExtraBucks rewards, you need to sign up for an ExtraCare card from CVS. You can get one at any CVS store. Just ask staff at the register to help with signing up.
The card has a unique ExtraCare number on it, and this is required to receive the exclusive deals and earn credit for in-store purchases.
If you want, you can also opt to create a scannable ExtraCare “card” and link it to the CVS mobile app to make it easier to track savings and view coupons and rewards instantly. This is handy to have if say you misplaced your card. Once you have your card added to the CVS mobile application, all you’ll need to do is scan the card’s barcode at checkout to receive the rewards.
Earning ExtraBucks Rewards
There’s more than just one way to earn ExtraBucks Rewards with the CVS ExtraCare program.
- The CVS weekly ad or CVS myWeekly Ad is issued every week with new sale and specials. This is the online alternative to the pharmacy’s circular, and it includes personalized ExtraCare deals as well, only for CVS members.
When you go online to the pharmacy’s website and link your ExtraCare card, the website will list personalized weekly deals for you based on your purchase history. Say for example that you normally use a particular brand for skin care. CVS will know which brand that is and can give you discounts or coupons accordingly. This is an example of how they’ll look like:
- Quarterly ExtraBucks represent 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards from everyday purchases. CVS issues these ExtraBucks January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 every year. Quarterly ExtraBucks excludes items such as alcohol, prescriptions, gift cards, newspapers, magazines, and tobacco.
They will notify you via email about your quarterly rewards, and once they’re available, you can either print them or choose to send them to your CVS card. You will have to redeem these rewards within 45 days from date of issue.
- ExtraCare Pharmacy and Health Rewards earns you $5 ExtraBucks every time you fill 10 prescriptions. You will need to join the program to earn credit every time you fill or refill prescriptions in store or online.
You also earn credit when getting a flu shot or vaccination, when adding prescription management to your CVS account, and when signing up for Refill Reminder emails and for prescription text alerts.

Definitely a plus for the ExtraBucks Rewards program is the fact that you can use “CVS money” with additional coupons to save even more. This includes manufacturer’s and store coupons along with ExtraBucks that you can use on the same item. And what’s more, even with all that saving, you would still receive ExtraBucks reward for your purchase.
