Even though there are only a few major sales events we think of when it comes to saving on various products, each month actually brings some sort of discounts on selected merchandise.

February makes no exception since it includes three important events that typically influence some of the discounts offered and the items that go on sale, namely the Super Bowl, which is held on the first Sunday of this month, Valentine’s Day on February 14th, and Presidents’ Day which is held in the second part of the month.
Prices do drop on specific product categories in February, which makes it worth waiting for this month’s sale to stock up on various items. Here is a list of what usually gets discounted in the second month of the year.
TVs and cameras
Given that this is the month of the long-awaited Super Bowl, shoppers show a great interest in big-screen TVs and discounts on such items. According to Nerd Wallet, in January 2020, 17% of Americans were planning to buy a new TV during the Super Bowl sales, and this is probably valid for every February since the event is held every year and thus there will always be shoppers interested in upgrading their experience.
Some retailers even offer discounts on TVs toward the end of January, so if such a product is on your wish list, make sure to check your favorite retailers’ offers early. Amazon, Best Buy, and Target are some of the retailers whose Super Bowl sales include savings on such items.
Prices are cut on older models, although the difference in technology from one year to another is not that big, so you can get a 2020 model in February 2021 and enjoy an experience similar to the one offered by the next year’s models.
TVs are not the only electronics that go on sale, though. In the last few years, we’ve seen prices drop on cameras and other small electronics as well, especially since new such items are launched during the Consumer Electronics Show.
Mattresses and home items
What’s great about February is that it also includes the Presidents’ Day sales, which usually feature significant price cuts on mattresses, bedding, furniture, tools for home and DIY projects, and even small kitchen appliances.
New furniture designs are usually released at the end of January, and once that happens, retailers start cutting prices on furniture designs from the previous year in order to clear their stocks and make room for the new styles.
Some of the price cuts we saw in the last few years around Presidents’ Day were actually the greatest of the year. Retailers such as Best Buy, Lowe’s, and Overstock have offered Presidents’ Day discounts of up to 70% on select items. For example, select appliances were discounted by up to 35% at Lowe’s.
Winter apparel and gear
Since winter is at its end during this month, apparel retailers start discounting winter products to clear out their stocks and get ready for the spring collection. Now is a great time to purchase winter apparel and outdoor gear since some of them get discounted by up to 75% as we’ve seen in the last few years.
What’s great about these February sales is that they make it possible to save on things you can still use before the warm season settles in. Plus, some of the items that go on sale are appropriate for the chilly days of spring and fall, so you can get some use out of them before the next winter. J. Crew, Sierra Trading Post, Old Navy, and Gap are some of the retailers that usually cut prices on winter items in February.
Valentine’s Day gifts
February also hosts Valentine’s Day, which besides being a great opportunity to express your feelings and spend time with your beloved one, leads to some cool price drops on select items. Valentine’s gifts range from chocolate to fragrances and cosmetics, and while before February 14th, they are available at full price, immediately after Valentine’s, their prices shrink.
So, in the days following the holiday of love, you can find major discounts on candy, fragrance and cosmetics sets, jewelry, and generally, everything that has been previously put together and wrapped as Valentine’s gifts. In the last few years, such items got discounted by up to 50%.
