Why cucumber water is so popular

Cucumber water is a popular detox drink and drinking cucumber water is not a modern phenomenon or the latest in celebrity trends.

This simple yet nutritious drink has been around for a long time and contrary to what bartenders will tell you, they did not invent it.

Who exactly invented cucumber water, no one really knows but everyone can tell you it’s served at health spas since forever.

There’s a lot that you can do with cucumber water, but before getting to that, let’s point out some of its benefits. If it’s so popular, there has to be a reason.

It picks up a fair amount of the nutrients found in cucumber.

What happens when you infuse water with cucumber slices is that the water will not only pick up flavor but also nutrients from the vegetable.

Cucumbers contain vitamin K, phosphorus, copper, manganese, potassium, vitamin C, biotin and other relevant vitamins and minerals.

They also contain one of the least known minerals, molybdenum that supports the activity of a number of enzymes in the human body and promotes everyday health.

Molybdenum may be able to offer antioxidant protection through the enzyme called xanthine oxidase and can support proper function of the nervous system.

The silica in cucumber promotes bone growth and supports overall development of the body. It’s also an important mineral for nail health and better skin.

No wonder so many celebrities add a few cucumber slices to their workout bottles!

What to do with cucumber water besides drinking.

You’ve probably read about cucumber masks and maybe even bought skin care products containing cucumber extract.

Cucumbers play an important role in skin care and manufacturers are aware of the many benefits they provide. The vegetable has astringent properties and contains relevant nutrients for skin health.

Cucumber is also gentle on the skin and may be used to treat acne, so while drinking cucumber water will help you stay hydrated, washing your face with cucumber water will help reduce the condition.

Apply soaked cucumbers to skin and you will calm redness too.

How to make cucumber water that actually tastes flavorful

Cucumbers are 95% water, so naturally they make the perfect addition to water. Usually people choose to infuse filtered or purified water because they taste better and bring out the flavor of cucumbers more.

You can also make cucumber water with sparkling water and any will keep well for up to 2 days in the refrigerator.

To make cucumber infused water, steep cucumber slices as many as you’d like in cold water and infuse for up to 4 hours, preferably no less than 2.

When refrigerating, make sure you allow at least 4 hours so that the water has enough time to take on the flavor.

You can stir from time to time or stir just before serving. Adding cucumber slices as garnish may be a good idea, although it could make it more difficult to drink. You could add a few slices in a pitcher or carafe when serving guests to make an impression.
